Description
We were delighted when the Ashmolean approached us to make a liqueur inspired by their collection and their role in preserving the past. The history of the crab apple stretches back 10,000 years. They were enjoyed by the Celts well before the introduction of the domestic apple by the Romans. Already having a small orchard of crab apples on the farm this genuinely heritage fruit seemed a perfect choice for our collaboration with the Ashmolean.
Not as sweet as dessert apples or as sharp as cookers, the crab apple has a gentle appley taste with a hint of rose water. Some organic star anise has also been added to the recipe for further interest.
The liqueur slightly chilled is fantastic with cheese. A Crab Appletini packs a delicious punch, as does the crab apple liqueur with any rum based cocktail
