Our elderberry liqueur comes from elder growing in our hedgerows and cultivated plants in the field which we use as wind breaks to protect the young currant bushes. Elderberries are an amazing natural source of vitamin C, and high in antioxidants. The liqueur is rich, deep and fruity, with a hint of aniseed. Elderberry liqueur works well with strong blue veined cheeses as an alternative to port; try with the raw milk Stichelton or our local Oxford Blue.
In sauces or marinades accompanying game it adds a depth and intense flavour. We love it mulled, sweetened with apple juice and spiced with cardamon, star anise, cinnamon and cloves. Warm through gently, until steaming hot, taking care not to boil. Strain and pour into cups. Once you’ve tried this, you’ll never go back to mulled wine.
